“NO SECOND CHANCES”

Did you give me a second chance?
I’m not quite sure at this first glance.
More time has passed in the time since
Than I had years when first your prince.
We always say, “We were kids then,”
As if we’d played inside a pen
And now with plastic walls long gone
We’d really know if we belong
Together- the assumption was
Resounding no simply because
That is how society’s ruled
And really now, our hearts had cooled,
Right?
Not so fast, your fingers called
Thru keys that in my lock installed
A turning that I didn’t expect—
Had hoped for sure, but would be wrecked
If I had let myself invest
Too much inside your treasure chest—
But now, your melting man am I,
The situation makes us sigh,
Reflect upon this chance with wonder
And tear the book of rules asunder.
