Her Eyes

They say the iris
Of each human being
Is as unique
As their fingerprint

Hers are pale blue
With streams of white
And pale yellow
Cloudlike

Her dilated pupils
Signal fear
Physiology betrays
What she will not say

She is tough and brave.
She faces her fears willingly
Seeks them out
And demands the challenge

Rather than hiding from them
And pretending they do not exist
As most do

He thrives on this

And yet has fears
Of a different kind

Fear that he
Will not
Be able
To control the beast
Within
This time

He too seeks out
His fears.
Confronts and challenges them
Risks the loss of control
He fears most

Despite their fears
He steps forward,
Breathes deeply

His pupils dilate.
He flexes the cane
And begins
The release that
Will come for them
Together
