The Lady Blue (The First Kiss)
I will never forget the first kiss Gary ever gave me. It happened one night after babysitting Gary, Jr. at their house.
Gary drove me home that night kidding me the whole way about me dozing off before they returned home.
He parked the car along side one of the lighted lamp posts lining our driveway.
There was a long silence during which time, I found my eyes moving slowly over his well-built body. I imagined him taking me in his arms and holding me as he professed his fervent love for me. I wished then that I would never have to get out of his car and go inside.
"I'm really sorry for falling asleep tonight," I said looking directly at his face.
"I was only kidding with you, Babe. It wouldn't have happened if me and Carol hadn't have stayed out so late."
I trembled then as our eyes met and he stared back at me longer than I knew he should have done. He looked down at first then moved his eyes up and down my body. My heart pounded as he slipped one hand around my neck and pulled my face close to his own. I reached up to touch his face just as his lips touched mine. He kissed me very gently then pulled away with a look of embarrassment.
"I'm sorry, Babe," he said, his voice strained. "I shouldn't have done that."
"Oh, no!" I protested!"
"Are you getting down?
"I wanted you to kiss me.
"I don't know what I was thinking," he said reaching in his pocket for his wallet. I just lost my head for a moment."
"Don't be sorry," I said as he took out some bills and pressed them into my right hand.
"I really liked it. He reached across in front of me and opened the passenger side door."That's the problem, ma cheri,."
"Don't worry, Gary! I won't tell anyone you kissed the babysitter.
"I knew better than to touch you. You're just a kid Babe McGwire!
"No, I'm not, " I protested as I climbed out of the car. "I'm eighteen now!" I leaned my head inside the passenger window.
"Babe, I'm a married man. Besides, I am a lot older than you and I really don't want to take advantage of you."
"I know that," I said smiling. "I still think you're wonderful."
