Dark Indifference

Shining eyes and dancing, flying steps
with a smile that makes one feel blessed
Their touch divine miracle, every day eternity
Joy followed in their wake, life delighted entirely

The change was so subtle, no precise start
Once brilliance and light, now shadow and night
Vacancy and darkness where upon a time
flawless euphoria, absolute joy all mine

I observe as I devolve helpless, incapable
halting the dark indifference impossible
Transformation would require knowledge
uncomprehending of what possessed me

Perhaps I was overrun, dominated
A vessel for malignant wraith which hated
Incited undiluted apathy, so very tragic
To illuminated, immortal soul, creating utter havoc
Recompense for who died in misery, forsaken

Is this my ultimate destiny, my lifelong plight
to be erased by impassivity, expunged from the light?
So far excised from emotion that even logic has no part
in the equation of salvation to bring light to my heart?

Indifference is the impeccable opposite of all emotion
blocking a soul from ecstasy here and Above
If this is my fate, I beg for inhuman compassion
Separate me eternally  from mortal life, if I merit love.

Author's Note
COMPETITION PIECE: In Kabbalistic thought, a dybbuk (restless malevolent spirit) can overtake a person and transform them into what the spirit had been like when alive. In this, the dybbuk has overtaken myself, rendering me apathetic and indifferent to the world to such a degree that I would rather be dead that stay as I am.
