Love: Around The Year -Part 1(Summer)

Among the humdrum of
a humid April afternoon,
dazed and disoriented
you dragged yourself;

among scores of
seething, sweating men
and stopped suddenly
to watch the beggar croon-
with an enviable gay abandon
and a beaming face.

Your mood levitated and
your legs were held
by a moving figure-
rushing past the steel army

You followed your enchanted gaze
directed onto her.
Curly jet black hair
and high, arched eyebrows
from a dream

along with a pair of huge hazel eyes-
magnetic and telling

Mesmerized you moved closer-
the world …a frozen portrait

You held her hand and kissed-
drawing some loud cheers,
post you walked the evening market
to a quiet bakery

with the evening breeze and slow jazz
you lived in a reverie-
for ageless, limitless time
as peals of laughter
filled in the air
and rheumy eyed you sat
and listened to it
without a care

The moon smiled and
so did the owner
as the night grew thick,
hand in hand you walked down
silently with so much to speak…
lying on the drenched grass
you gazed at stars, counting
with every passing moment,
a strange heaviness came mounting.

As the twilight drew closer
your eyes were locked
for what seemed an eternity…
till you shook yourself-shocked

As the birds chattered and
the sun shone in the brilliant east
the breeze carried the low rumble
from the distant station,
slowly you crossed the street
with soft words being exchanged

Walking so close yet the distance
seemingly so vast
as silence corroded your innards
and the traffic grew thick,
you rushed to her cottage
and made love
on the wooden floor

tears of joy and
sequence of lifeforce
marked the occasion-
of togetherness between
two free birds-one lost
and one found.

The shrill alarm ended
the post-coital siesta.

You went on to sleep some more-
lost in dreams as she sat

You
thought
wrote
cried
gathered

and left

leaving behind a scented letter
with a rose,
memories that could last
multiple lifetimes-
a polarized photograph
with her name underneath
and a thirteen digit number
highlighted in fluorescent,
while taking unmixed love from
an affable stranger
and a set of genetic codes
for future usage
(Continual protein chains
for chains of continuations!)

You woke up by the bright sun
to find her gone-
frantic you went on about
like a deranged beast
to see the widened chasm
between dream and reality

When you found the mementos
left carefully,
ruefully you sat and
went thru them one by one
while munching on
the-still-fresh-breakfast

A multitude of emotions
swept you across
as the deafening silence
and her conspicuous absence
led you to a cold shower
and the first tear drops-

of despair?
of loss or
may be of confusion?

Capricious life and hostile fate
playing tricks?

Wizened eyes resulting in
weakened heart,
but still you reminded
yourself of the story
and the limitless love
and timeless glory,
while moving out of
that suffocating space

You came across an envelope
kept under the wraps
Carefully you opened it
and took out the letter-
little feminine alphabets
in cursive smiled at you,
smelling of fresh love
and endless hope
Tears of joy rolled down
in perfect abandon
as you reread the lines…
drunk on love,
feasting on
the bare revelations
As the summer day progressed
with suppressing heat,
drenched-in-sweat
you shook with joy,
abounding

A new story had begun
with a promising start
and as the hot brooding days
went on to be weeks,
the excitement in you became
something of
a thick furred and bushy tailed feel

Restless you stared
at the empty streets-
dusty and forlorn,
knowing somewhere that
rain is on her way soon.

A life spent in vicious solitude and
now a day of victorious stories?
The resounding paradigm shift or
your mere human weakness?
The flesh? The care or
the illusive sense of security?
Battles raged on
waged by your conscience
(or the remnants?)
Was it love or the selfish vagaries
of a self made social leper?
Will she come with the largesse of rains
and promise of romance?
Only the days ahead would tell…

The story of the old man
and the seasons…
