Image for the poem Barrel

Barrel

I've been pondering jellyfish and moonlight -
barrels in their pulsating, milky white,
red moons that swell and sail up from behind mounts,
faming a full, fearsome face.

Adrenaline, caused by sweeping surprise, carried our swim last moon.
There were black fish rising
before us from depth
and hitting water,
a cormorant dipped in an uncomplicated frolic
as we evaded foreign lifeforms
seen glowing beneath the surface.
Bats flew above our caps
- an uncontainable saturation of the natural.

In the depths of my mind not much exists beyond the endless expanse of water and all
I don't know
- I've been pondering jellyfish and moonlight -
and tonight I'm restless with where next we'll go.
