To My Love
Oh, to my love,
I want to say to you,
That you don’t have to go anywhere:
If you want to
Get to some place,
You needn’t move at all to get there.
And no distance will take you away.
To my love
In the mirror plane
Leading out your days just like me,
Oh don’t you see
The distance here;
I reach out but I cannot touch your face.
I stand right by
With you beside
But together we can never be.
And in the world,
Oh, I know, love,
Such strangers always are we.
And to my love:
For someone I feel
The whole of what I hold in my heart.
I can’t say just who –
But I know you –
Just turn around for one moment.
You never will be
One with me,
But I will always feel your pull
On the other end
Of the rope I hold
Whose end goes endlessly on somewhere.
I cherish you,
And I’ll see you
In every single face I stare into.
Oh, to my love,

If only I
Held so dear my
Own life as I hold you,
I’d see
That my love somewhere out there I seek
Is literally only me.

I seriously love this! Haha I relate to that looking for love outside yourself, and maybe in some other plane, only to realize you were really looking for it in yourself all that time. I also think it's similar to the god search, at least for me, with putting all this power and hope into an entity outside myself and realizing that so much of that energy should be directed toward the individual instead because we are the ones who can change our lives truly. I like that on the second read of this, I think of the love you speak of as the deeper part of yourself and it's like you're calling yourself a stranger when you call your love, and you cherish yourself without realizing it, until the end when you do. It's just really well done.

Thank you so much! I'm so glad it's relatable. This very much was the first poem of a big god search for me as well (though I don't consider myself religious). I loved what all it made you think of. I think it is both those interpretations: looking for someone else but also for a part of yourself.
