somewhere
I woke up
To the afternoon heat and
To the smell of cigarettes.
"Sleep well?"
He asked me.
I smiled,
Made shy by the daylight,
And nodded.
I asked back -
And all I got
Was a "mmhm,"
And I let it drop.
Though I see the darkness beneath
Those eyes.
That was tired.
That was heavy.
He took me to a field in the middle
Of nowhere
Where nothing much really grows
Except for a few trees
Stubbornly standing under harsh sun.
We sought shade and lied down beneath.
It's been a while,
Since I saw the vastness of this sky
So vivid and blue.
The leaves of the stubborn trees
Glow emerald
In the brightness
And the wind blows a music of its own
Then the tightness in my chest made itself known.
The vast, vivid, blue sky -
Closing down on me.
The stubborn trees
Will fall down any second now.
I felt his hand hold mine.
I looked at his face.
Eyes, questioning.
I pulled my hand out of his grasp.
I stood up
And ran away.
