Precious jewel of my heart
you possess unrivaled strength
Your mind is a prism, refracting truth
Agonizingly simple and yet
there are those who try to obfuscate
Dear child, walk fearless
It is in the between the lines
where adults try to read
failing to appreciate you.
Your beauty, not of physicality
rarest countenance of intellect
a treasure beyond compare
yours as easy as breathing

Tributes regarding children can be wonderfully revealing. I’ve written about my son Joey, who wasn’t with me for very long. It’s always cathartic when my pen brings him back for a while.

I am sorry to hear about your son, Joey. May your pen always write about him in ways that bring you healing.
My daughter just turned 11, and she is in many ways mature beyond her years. There are those in her life (teachers, mainly) who forget this and when it causes her hurt, I am there to remind her of exactly how special she is and how shortsighted the adults in her life can be.
