The Growing Hopeful Fool

You spun your little web of lies from the very start it seems
They were so pervasive, invasive they infiltrated my dreams
Yet none could be done wrong in my widest awake of eyes
Making excuses all of the days through intuition’s cries
Learning, conniving, mapping out plans had you scurry forth
Falling for it hook, line and sinker, would never stand up in a court
Forgive my naïveté with all of the countless mistakes that I’ve made
For I was far too in love with love to realize just how I’d been played
Age has made me somewhat wiser, but still the hopeful fool am I
I like to believe the best in all and will do so until I die
Now I cover it with jaded leanings and the most cynical of talk
Though if ever called on my bluff I could never walk the walk
A bleeding heart beats strongly within my chest and could never be forsaken
Though I try to hide it my best, the loving beast inside will always reawaken
