Word Play

Wandering forever east
towards where they play fair with easy words
inherited letters spinning lazily
with one taken to and fro
whereon a new verb is birthed
yet such ease does not last forever
the gentle spring in step
made way for discomforting winter
where minds suffer a bitter freeze
unable to do little more
than shuffle slightly onwards
wherein it is simply a worm
twisting and contorting
upon the all too familiar same trodden ground
looking for a new way out
caught as it is in this hellish circle
going round about but never forwards,
such maddening movement
can prove enough to boil even the calmest waters
incapable of flowing fresh
broiling in fury seeking original release
summoning all malign powers
as inspiring desires go unrequited
crawling by inches,
yet these hot waters
formerly foreboding and importing disaster
can create new pathways
so the journey continues unabated
in new directions previously unimagined
the once dragging effort
replaced with a kinder and fairer progression
revolution now making winter the fool
as the spring returns triumphant
crowned in gregarious glory
where even a worm may soon become wings
such transformations rendered commonplace
no feat beyond the harnessed powers
the smallest change
rippling giant leaps and bounds
echoing down lines yet to be written
their deference shown in connection
as each new beat skips along
the archaic through arcane transmuting
turned into modern familiarity
in a manner universal
that welcomes new inclusion
the process itself unconcerned with rank or title
instead revelling in the novel and revolutionary
progression eastbound
ceaseless in changing voyage
a strange melody left in its wake
as it weaves and bobs easterly and onwards.
