not that kind of romantic

don't bring me flowers
snipped from their bower
for I will weep oceans inside
mourning their beauty
a reluctant witness
as it slowly dies
don't bring me death
on amputated limbs
beautifully cradled
(or should I say bandaged)
in shiny paper
hospice on my doorstep
knowing a vase full of water
will never extend their life
where others see romance
my spirit sees life stolen
gifts for mere moments
and the truth is
I am unworthy
of their unwilling sacrifice
let me adore them
with you by my side
where they live freely
beneath expanse of open sky
growing fragrant and wild
bright in the sunshine
just as I long to be
