Dear Daughter

Dear Daughter

If I could make a wish for you
I would wish that you chase your dreams
I would wish that you would climb any mountain, break down any wall, if it means you accomplish what you want most.

If I could make a wish for you
I would wish you love. I would wish you the deepest, most pure form of love. I would wish that you love without apology, without fear. I would wish that you love relentlessly and selflessly, because my dear daughter, that is the love that makes the world go round.

If I could make a wish for you, I would wish you a world full of hope, peace, and happiness. I would wish for all your wishes to come true. I would wish for you that the glass slipper fits. I would wish away any heartbreak or pain.

But my dear daughter, I cannot make these wishes for you. Dear daughter I can only tell you what I know to be true.

Dance when it rains, not because the cliche saying is something we are told to live by, but because it makes getting through the storm that much easier.

When you fall, get back up, especially if you were pushed. No matter how hard I try to protect you, you will encounter a mean girl, you will encounter a negative Nancy, a Debby downer, and when they push you down, get up and march on. Not because you want to, not because it will be easy, but because you will be better for it.

And most importantly dear daughter, know your worth.
You deserve happiness, you deserve the world. Whether your world is a husband or wife and children. Or a career above the glass ceiling. Regardless of what world your world becomes, know your worth.

My dear daughter I love you, and I will always be here for you. I will support you and I will protect you, I will catch you when I can. And I will dust you off when I have to.

Dear daughter, you will do great things, and I pray I will be there to watch you all the way.
