Shimmering Crystals (The Hourglass)

Through the shapely curves of her bosom I search
through her transparency into the void where
days untouched by choice and happenstance
once met me with slow anticipation. Her †
midriff, as a beach, slides and shifts †
imperceptible waves, slowly, but †
certainly faster than before. †
She cares not how I feel †
future or past, for her †
task is to meet me †
today at her †
navel †
and let pass †
my love, my loss, †
and occasional joy: †
shimmering crystals in †
in an ocean of brown sand. †
Days forever indistinguishable, †
forgettable, lost in mundane rote †
drawing breath but unliving; unwilling †
observer of celestial danse-macabre. Yet †
iridescent stones bespeckle her legs, call to †
me with dread longing for me to hold, feel and †
experience them once more. If only in mindís eye.
