Before I Forget

Itís how all car crashes begin
stunted by red lights
that brought them here † †
†† †
as she haunts the ribs of my house † †
as she tiptoes through the kitchen † †
ankles draped in furrowed light † †
whispering against my neck † †
a lost song of heartache. † †
† †
Iíll take her here, † †
but she is not you † †
† †
she is not chaos † †
rising her black moons † †
against my haunted spine † †
as she curls inside my spheres † †
and I climb her ribs like a monument † †
to worship guts of hollow stars † †
† †
she is not the way † †
you piss on hot stones in my yard † †
to mark your territory in waves † †
as you tell me you love me † †
then drop to your knees † †
to declare war † †
† †
no, she is not you † †
though we are stunned † †
headlamp to headlamp †
in a restless hallway; † †
knotted hips pressed † †
against solid bone.
† †
Iíll fuck her in tribute † †
before I forget your name.
