Deathbed Colors

He turned the charm on when he wanted --
Brother, supporter, keeper and friend.
But when illness struck he wasn't there:
Not so much a note, he didn't care.

Some family thought him a bit odd -
When we dismissed as poor sods.

Who everyone thought he was, wasn't --
Nice at face but looked at as peasants.
Who would have thought his own family:
Was the circle he'd make enemies.

Death is the great equalizer -
But also the greatest exposer.

Funny how around death bluntness comes --
It's just a house when we thought a home.
You see some for their true characters:
Moot all the sudden is past laughter.

He had tampered with the Will -
Executor, to take the kill.

Funny how money -
Can sometimes turn memories
Into family despondency
And interpersonal tragedy.
