A Poet Shy

If you see my passing glance.
Perhaps it means I took a chance.
To find some clever words to say,
before the courage runs away.

Most likely though, I just walk by,
trying to hide a teary eye.
Sometimes the words are hard to find,
and tangle up within my mind.

An introvert that seldom tries.
Yet still I long to socialize.
Caught up in fear that's hard to shake.
It feels like more than I can take.

I stand inside a crowded room,
heart racing from impending doom.
Anxiety is all I feel,
reality is far too real.

Imagination, hopes and dreams,
are all I have it sometimes seems.
Still deep within I truly care,
yet often most are unaware.

Though I may not repeat the phrase,
I show my love in many ways.
The written words for all to see,
I share myself through poetry.
