Lonesome Blue

Lonesome blue,
tinges of honkytonk twang
pop and sizzle
on the spinning circle
and I savour the brew

A tip of the bottle
to hydrate the dry mouth
and that nervous tension
if she gets that chance to swing by
I'll take another

A dismal Friday
my vacant stare
searching for car lights
to occupy the empty silence
and distance myself
from the tragic narrative
of that sad old song

Lonesome Blue,
calling it a night
as patrons couple off
falling into the motions
of hands around waists
and that cruel reminder
of another weekend started
with no hint of a date.
