A Pirate’s Maiden

- A Pirate’s Maiden -
Blood and Romance on the High Seas

From out of the port, the harbors with the old docks,
I went to sea, one summer day, I went to sea I did…
I watched the gulls pass me, in their pale white flocks.
And when the wind blew fierce I had never once hid!
From far to the north, I heard the sounds of cannons,
Upon the sea one summer day, upon the sea so blue!
I ordered the gun ports open, bade lads to man them.
And we plotted a new course that was bold and true!

Two ships did battle: a merchantman, and a galleon…
One flag was English, and the other was of old Spain!
Our own ship ventured in like a wildly running stallion,
And we prepared to grant to the loser, no end of pain.
Three ships did battle but only one would reach shore,
Our flag was black, and we brought hot fire and steel!
One vessel from England would sail the seas no more,
And the Spanish galleon was sunk, a leviathan’s meal!

We left the English captain on an isle with but a pistol,
I gave him some rum, that mad day, a bottle of rum…
I watched him shoot himself, and return not to Bristol!
Now that his cargo was ours, we decided to have fun.
From the wreck of that English ship, screams echoed,
Upon the green sea, that mad day, upon the high sea!
I found a treasure of silver, whilst blood had flowed…
And I spied a young woman to whom I took a fancy!

Pirates were we, and our hold was filled with delights,
But none can compare to she whom I came to love…
Let the crew have their silver and many jealous fights!
For I now share my cabin with an angel from above…
And ere we reach port men will die for mere baubles!
But I know one precious pearl I’ll ne’er need to share.
Let the men divide their plunder with many troubles…
For I am content with the gold of my maid’s fine hair!

Oh a pirate’s maiden is what she is, my beautiful lass,
I taught her the code and the way, one summer day…
I gave her rapier and pistol; she now fights with class.
When she gives her orders she has a power to sway!
From the crow’s nest, the lookout spies familiar land,
Upon the sea we roved, and we’ll rove at sea again…
I: and my pirate maid, we’ll both shout the command.
When we set sail from the harbors, of our island den!
