Different Ways
Life brands us in such different ways, she smiled,
And heated up the iron on the fire;
You really should not cross me; I get wild
When you talk back: you do not know the wire
You walk upon, when you do not give in
To all I want and need; your sacrifice
Is really not enough; it won't begin
To satisfy my need - I know your vice:
You're a degraded, pain pig; I will hurt
You more than you can know or ever dream;
And, if this pinnacle will make you spurt,
Then the hot branding iron makes you scream
Your joy at recreation and my plays:
These brand you in such very different ways.
