Nírnaeth Arnoediad

Though tragic was the brutal end of Gelmir of the Ñoldor
It holds no comparation to the Battle of the Unnumbered Tears
The anguish of his brother’s demise was too much for Gwindor
And he led his force to their doom against the Valar most feared.

Though the Dark Lord trembled before his ire
The Union of Maedhros was doomed from the start
For the sons of Fëanor were cursed by the oath of their Sire
And they hunted for the Silmarils, though it weighed heavily in their hearts.

Despite the alliance between the children of Ilúvatar
The arrogance of two sons impeded victory
Sworn before the presence of Manwë and the Queen of Stars
The bloody oath became an advantage for the enemy.

Greed and betrayal caused the most damage
More so than even the wrath of Morgoth
The battle tipped in the favor of the orcs so savage
Even ages later, if asked to recount the day, one would be told: “I cannot.”

For no words can describe the horror of the First Age
More so the greed that led to The War of the Jewels
Easterlings betrayed and trapped in their cage
The Dark Lord proved invincible, except for the notorious duel.

Most of Beleriand was razed, except for Doriath
The elven city of Gondolin remained hidden
Foolish Húrin provoked The Dark Lord’s wrath
And was forced to watch the curse take hold of his children.
