Wild Flower

I saw a girl I sort of knew but wanted to know better. I walked up and we started talking. She was a flower growing in the sidewalk, wild and free, dismissing convention. Admired by all who saw her, strong and determined to grow, to bloom in spite of her situation. She said, “That is a vicious hat you have on” with a laugh then she started giving me growling kisses. Looked me in the eye and with a smile said, “My daddy loves me, no?” I said, “Yes, but let’s get off this curb and go sit on the wall. This curve is not made for drunk people.” So, we moved to the wall where we sat, her perfume was distilling my mind as she kissed my face and neck. She was excitement, her body electric and she knew she had the world on a string. She was looking for a reason to dance with the December wind which was blowing through the naked trees. I didn’t have the time or inclination for reinventing bodies or resurrecting souls, yet just being near her was magic in the way that joy kills sorrow. I liked her. Hell, I loved her, but I didn’t want to give it all away. I played it cool and a little distant, keeping up the chase for her, making her work for me. Hoping she didn’t see through me, hoping if she did, she wouldn’t care. I wanted her. I didn’t want to make her mine, that could never happen. She wouldn’t allow it. I wanted her to want me. She had to want to be mine, to give herself away. But, was she for real or was she just playing games because it was late and she was alone? I didn’t care, but we needed a way of escape. We needed some place else to go. Two unwanted strangers spending the vampire hours together we walked off into the dark. There’s a black world out there full of things we can’t explain. Like how we ended up in bed together, how she wanted me to stay, to hold her for a while, to never leave her side, how she decided to give herself to me, to be mine.
