Acknowledgement

 
Acknowledging a person takes nothing away from me  
 
Or my own accomplishments  
 
No need for a speech  
or lengthy conversation  
 
A simple wave or head nod will do  
 
This brief statement of "I see you" is common the world over  
 
It is a simple thing  
And it is mighty  
 
It is my personal acknowledgement,  
and acceptance,  
of God's decision to allow each person I meet to continue drawing breath upon this earth  
 
My acceptance of another human's presence is proof that I realize I am not the center of the universe  
And this may very well be the thing that reminds God that I understand my place in this world he created  
 
And that I am ready to move on to the next step
