Image for the poem weep for me

weep for me

we weep as one
without a single tear shed
you do so with a smile
that fails to reach your eyes

I play along
smiling back at you
I keep it all in to save your heart

you know you are losing me
you hold me tightly each chance you get
to stop me from slipping from your grasp

you watch helplessly as I fade
calling me back to you
with love and trust in your gaze

I hide from your beauty
it pains me to see
the hope I know I will snuff out

my fear is greater somehow
I don't trust myself
not with your heart
so I weep with you,
I grieve quietly inside myself

as you slip further from my grasp
while still sleeping beside me
because I know I have little chance of being her
the woman shining in your gaze †
when you look at me

I'm hollow and broken
I can't be who you need
this breaks my heart more than you know

I was gifted a love of a lifetime
who is slipping through my fingers
one tearless moment after another
