Defining Education

Nobody gives rats about the meaning of education
(But they went to school anyway and got a job that pays!)
Once I start explaining
Many don’t know the difference between teaching and education
Teaching is the practicalities of learning with the students in the classroom
Education the word itself may seem doom and gloom
But actually it covers 4 important contexts:
Historical, political, social and cultural aspects, in theory.
And yet you had the time to stop and ask me what I study
But you don’t really care
I can read right through you (it’s not rocket science)
Internally judging me
Placing me in a box, under level of class
Seeing who’s at the top and and who’s last
Measure me up, you know where I stand
Too many people like you
Judged and nudged at by this annoying question
Firing back at me in subtle discretion
Yet, I’m still happy to share
See who really cares
Head held high
Nothing will stand in my way, goodbye.



However, we could had kept going with this conversation
Don’t you know that education is everywhere you go?
Not just in schools or at work or through the sales clerks
It’s all on you
Take what you get
And if you don’t use it, you abuse it
Knowledge and skill is a driven force
That keeps us evolving, we find our source
Our ancestors passed down their stories and actions
So we can live our full potential
And yet we are measured by our credentials
At any given time, someone new asks:
“So what do you do? Work or study?”



Everyday we have decisions to make
And for some of us it’s either “make or break”
Trying to dig into our fields of interest
Building ourselves as artists
No matter the profession, work in progression and fulfil your dream!
Everyday we think to ourselves: “What’s next?”
Everyday people on the street need help
But all we do is go on our phones and think about yourself
Step up the plate and volunteer
Everyone wants the world to be a better place
Have no fear!
It starts with your actions
It covers 4 things: culturally, socially, economically and humanly capital
And we are already making this possible and manageable!
In different settings it can happen in 3 ways: formal, informal and non-formal
No matter where you are
What does “normal” mean to you?
Challenge yourself
Wake up and smell the coffee
Education is forever growing like our population
