Broken Flames

The fire leaps though time and space
To touch my feet and then your face
You will feel it as soon as I
Let it go to run and hide
These are the broken flames
Of my ten year old sight
 
And as I grow and think and see
You too, will read my thoughts and be
Held captivated, sorrowful and jaded
Wishing you could have taken
Away all the flames have shaded
 
So now the fire holds steady in your hands
Finding a place that’s soft to land
To burn and pierce the pieces of your soul
As you continue to think and know
About the broken flames
Of my twelve year old bones
 
And as I grow and think and see
You too, will read my thoughts and be
Held captivated, sorrowful and jaded
Wishing you could have taken
Away all the flames have shaded
 
As the fire leaps even higher
It trembles beneath my ribs
The things you see and the things you hear
Will forever in your brain be seared
There go the broken flames
Of my sixteen year old fears
 
And as I grow and think and see
You too, will read my thoughts and be
Held captivated, sorrowful and jaded
Wishing you could have taken
Away all the flames have shaded
 
The flames are closing in so fast
Taking up all the room I had in my past
The hand you take can no longer feel
But you hold steady waiting for the heal
Longing to take the broken flames from me
While they consume my twenty year old ordeal
 
Soon the flames will be over my head
And I’ll be nothing, left for dead
Taken over piece by piece
And given mind numbing peace
You will still be standing
