Image for the poem the seedling

the seedling

a seedling in hope neath the elder tree
grows roots in the darkling Earth
certain wisdom is gleaned from the dark
a rich embodiment of truth

raised skyward its shoots seek the solace of the sun
the elder tree looks on with a knowing
she has endured the darkness of understanding

with each revolution of time
her rings grew more prominent
she is honored in the forests
being a great keeper of secrets

a warrior in nature she stands proudly
the season of fire has passed
she lay witness to the culling
weakling sources whose roots failed to reach
the waters of knowledge

fire in his wisdom saw this
and returned them to sky
Father sun sees his reflection
in the elder sentients
protectors over the forests
guardians over the ancient magic

a seedling in hope neath the elder tree
reaches skyward
may the light make her branches strong
may time bring the wisdom of ages

allowing her to come full circle
as a sage, a keeper of truth
in the realm of men and women
