Bamboo Shoots*

(Well actually, we were listening to Dorian Corey going to town on it; RIP)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3CXj9_Z_mk

There had to be some sunshine to alleviate
Some kind of pain; trying to find the balance
In this life; how to invite without
Full disclosure or surrender without dying
And we just weren’t prepared to
Sustain
Let alone bounce back from
Something like that; that
Particular kind of loss
Growing
Underneath
My fingernails: bamboo shoots
Sheltering the meat-
Heart of the matter
Inside….
But if we think about all the times
Contrary has ever been a silent partner
In a relationship…
Erupting from the soil;
Farming
Recalcitrant over
Years of
Implantation
Touching face with the
Surface
Normally severed from the
Root with a
Spade or like minded
Attachment and
It wasn’t always hesitant
Being silenced by someone else
It was refractory
Silencing itself
and well…
Self-restraint can sometimes be
A virtue or even worse: a distinct flavor
Cured to a nearly acquired
Neutral flavor; as a long distance
Correspondent
.
