[ SK ] Consumed

I yanked myself free
from a mouth of nine-to-five
grinding --- a loose tooth
no longer in smiling, acquiescent
alignment with others who left me
chewed of flavor as well
come evening, eventually
hopping a flight to Boston
paid for with my last
unemployment check

never once looking back
upon the silhoetted gap where
I toiled on assembly lines
for damn near two decades

Capitalism has an unlimited
supply of adult teeth growing in
taking our place

Craig Toomey discovered that
way too late in the game
when his unproductive ass
was finally devoured
by Corporate America

I was likewise never missed
when the only evidence of me
found on that accursed plane
diverted to Los Angeles
was my dentures

Similar remnants of passengers
implied that aside from a pilot
and a handful of travelers
everyone on board perished

I reckon those who disappeared
without their pacemakers
likely did

Fortunately, I ended up
elsewhere

and for a nice change of pace
was finally living
