Nyctophobia

He dreads the descent of night
All the specters it contains
Voices travel moonlight waves
And whisper in his ear

Figures slowly taking shape
Shadows acquiring human form
They dance while he sits in horror
Recognizing those he cast in blight

The men speak of duplicity
A treachery in all his ways
The women that he left behind
Denounce him for his betrayal

They fade as the sun ascends
Receding slowly in the light
They leave his fragile sanity
A cold caress before the night.
