Tweens in Strollers

Tweens in strollers
Pushed around by mothers
And sometimes fathers
Like they were Queens
Or divine Emperors

Is treating a child
Like they were an infant
Good for their development?

Give me a break!

Author's Note
My entry for the 'Pet Peeve' competition.

There is a phenomena taking place in American culture; kids, some as old as 12, are still be pushed around in strollers. This is particularly true here in Minnesota.  This summer I took my nieces, ages 8 and 11, to the Minnesota Zoo.  I was stunned to witness the number of older elementary age children riding around in strollers.  Some so old that they sat with their knees near their heads.

Encountering one such child on a pathway my oldest niece greeted her by name.  Once she passed I asked my niece, "is she in your class?"

My niece answered, "no.  We go to the same school but she's a year ahead of me."
