Animosity of a Loving Heart

On my conscience a black stain
It never came to thought
An evil of the world that had to be taught
But why did I learn it from you?
Too blissed out to search for signs of deceit
While thorns of the underbrush pierce my heel
A forest of doubt is no good for walking
But the wolves have chewed up my feet
So now I can’t walk nor complain

I recall how it started
And am certain it will not end
But the middle still stabs at my guilt
How could you do this to my friend?
It’s cruel to know I can never avenge it
Because to avenge would mean to hurt you

Should you go looking for me just follow the blood
My gnawed soles leave crimson trails
My arms have dragged me since my feet did fail
The pieces left behind are daily bread for the vultures
The night is dismal though I’m not lost in the dark
Rage is a place I know well
If you are to free me then let your sorrow quell
My anger does not supercede love
Remember that else you’ll drown in the flood

I recall how it started
And am certain it will not end
But swords still rip open my throat
How could you do this to my friend?
Please do not run away
Or in this woodland I must stay
