I brought this on myself
Sitting here bleeding out
something good must become of this
of my own free will
I brought this on myself
The nurse looks at me with gratitude
her hands busy controlling the loss
I am not a hero I know this
people next to me in the same condition
I want my life to mean something
anonymously I may never see
At least I have my health
for how long none of us know
I will be courageous even with the pain
A little needle stick
a half a liter, I'm done, I just donated
That was not so bad,
something good must become of this
of my own free will
I brought this on myself
The nurse looks at me with gratitude
her hands busy controlling the loss
I am not a hero I know this
people next to me in the same condition
I want my life to mean something
anonymously I may never see
At least I have my health
for how long none of us know
I will be courageous even with the pain
A little needle stick
a half a liter, I'm done, I just donated
That was not so bad,

Re. I brought this on myself
And you gave the gift of life ! I’ve been a lab tech for 32 years , with blood banking/transfusion medicine as my specialty , and I even teach it at a local college. On behalf of lab techs everywhere , I thank you for your contribution—there is power in the blood, to save lives in more ways than one!
(And now I might have my students write some medical poems as a fun assignment to break up the intense program we put them through! )

MadameLavender, if you don't mind my asking in the middle of this ...
were you ever able to have your students do those medical poems? I'm very curious as to the outcome.
Thank you,
blessings,
Kathy

Hi Kathy —sorry for late reply—and no, no poems . We lost a week and a half of class time this semester due to snow, fire alarms , college survey , so I’m scrambling to catch up right now with 2 weeks left in the classroom . No time for extras!

My goodness, MadameL. I just logged on after several weeks or so of being tied up myself but about nothing nearly as worthy as you with all you do for others.
I thank you for your reply to me, I'm very appreciative.

Dear Tig,
This is your writing. It is useful and directed to what is good.

Hello TIG,
I've been wanting to come over to read some of your work but I'm not online very often (well, my attendance has improved during the year). I wanted to say how your piece drew me in with a little feeling of dread as I read on - but of course, sighed with relief to discover what you had done for others, that's wonderful. I wish I could do such a thing but my blood tends to be on the anemic side (thought I don't recall if that's how it's termed).
Be well, Poet,

Their are many reasons out there why some can not give blood. That is all the more reason why I continue to give! We all have gifts and my best guess is you have many that you use in a multitude of ways. Thank you for the kind critique of my scribble, as you can see I do not get on here that often either but when I do, I find many little treasures, with writings and the people therein. Looking forward to yours.

Thank you so much dear TIG. I just got back after some weeks, and I'm in this year's NaPoGloPoWriMo through this month of April, so I'll be here everyday to post & publish. Oh my, a double sort of challenge for me, but I'll give it my best effort.
Be well,
Kathy
