Never Forever
Always together and never apart
Forever I thought I would have your heart
Once you were my Princess and I your loyal young guard
You moving up in your royal circle; sadly, I was hoisted with my own petard
Once we were young and played out our fantasies; our childish games
'My Princess' I called you and your 'King' just one of my names
Now I call you majesty and bow down under the lash of your seer
Transformation into a warrior Queen now your enemies shake with fear
As you have risen through your regal ranks so I have fallen from grace
A ragged peasant of the streets, head bowed; of my former self? No trace
But though you are treated as this otherworldly deity
I hope you still have fond memories and give a little pity
Goddess of awesome might and destructive forces that you command
I will always be your soldier marching at your side, hand in hand
And you? Always my princess carrying the flower I picked against your breast
Always I pray for your safety and sweet rest
Never together yet always apart
Always and forever the queen of my heart

Love the imagery. And the last two lines sum up the pain and love of the poem. Beautiful.

Thank you Helen, I really appreciate your kind words. Heart not broken but the analogy I'm feeling right now is that of fingertips clawing at the cliff edge; Do I struggle and fight to get back over the top .... or just let go?
