Careful When They Sleep

I watch you snoozing
and I see you dead
the skin pulled so tightly
across the sharp features of your skull

The eyes open
and turn to me in scorn
bruised again
by a hurled curse

Kindness appears with the sun
pleasant morning attitudes
but dusk transforms
that enthusiasm

That soft angelic face
harbours a gnawing anger
in shouts
of rattled irritation

I watch each night
clouds fill those pupils
before closing
to the death

If I even move
...I'm fucked!
