An Unseen Battle

Personal battles you've never known or seen
You're okay but you're not, what does that even mean?

Personal battles you fight everyday
You're a warrior but they have no idea what to say

I am someone's tragedy in your eyes
There's no compassion in your lies

You say you'll be here no matter how bad it will get
They try but they lie; they're really asking when you'll get over it

They will ask why you never told them
And where these trust issues stem

For your silence they'll blame you
And not being able to deal will be your fault too

You see me as damaged, a broken victim blamed
But I say I am marked, not maimed

I wish they hadn't spoken
Because I'm bent, not broken

My body he bruised
Yes, I was abused

But never abandoned, never forgotten and never alone
That realization chilled me to the bone

Didn't know that I'm not the only one
Reassurances were given when I had none

A helpless victim, never again
It still hurts every now and then

And now, I'm here, I've come this far
It's no longer a wound but a warrior's scar
