Hoe-ing

We felt like
An alley
Cat
Tracking
Mud back into
Our parents’ house
Making
Exploration
A product
Of their trustiness
And faith in me
Maybe too much
And curiosity
In turn
Trusted women
Just the same
Too much
But belief
Was also
A symptom
Of those
Particular times
You didn’t have to
Check behind people,
Chase behind people
Or second guess
What you had
(luckily those were
The fairly
Harmless years)
Trusting
Young adult
Women to
Catch me
On hard wood
Floors,
Meet me
After that
Initial encounter;
On the street corner,
The radio dj
(Mystique)
Came over
To the house
Once-
I was calling in
She turned out
Look like
Something
My uncle
Would’ve hit
To my surprise
And my hs
Administrator
Well she
Thought I was
A doll;
My mother
Relayed to me
(She was
Given a thank you
Note for allowing me
To interview
For the
School newspaper)
But I had
Something else
On my mind
Truly
I wasn’t quite
That polite
But
Good lord
Give hoeing
A chance.

(we had more game in those formative years than ever as a woman it was safe and secure)
