Deep Cuts

A beautiful, round pool
of scarlet shocked me.
It glistened on the tile
in the bathroom light.

The darkness enveloped †
me, itís true, that was a start;
but it turned to curiosity †
of a morbid kind. †

It always did; wrapping
me in its soft familiarity. †
I always lied about the
why of my admission.

That day I didnít lie, and †
she stitched my heartache.
Sent me out with some
kind of quiet understanding.

I run my fingers over the †
raised skin; the perfect job.
Promises were made, and I have †
never touched that darkness again.
