The Witness
i knew early on from young
the easiest thing a black man can do
is get locked up
i saw the set up
sinister and systematic
can't be out here loitering
especially these days
''idle hand are the work shop of the devil''
indeed
learned that the hard way
got eleven stitches
around my eye as a constant reminder
right there i took the blinders off
peeping my peripheral
while walking that straight path
cops watching on the left
the hood hawking on the right
one false move
will get you caught up
brought on trumped up charges
cuz that's what the system is
designed to do
it moves like a shape-shifter
from overt slavery
to Jim Crow
to covert slavery
same shit different century
prisons for profit
we're just body parts
organ donors and cheap labor
a one stop shopping center
i see even more now
how black men are disappearing
right before our eyes
they got the street sweepers
picking up the pace on ni&&a removal
gentrified...simplified genocide
just wait
in the next ten years everyone
will see what i see
they're shortening history
as they rewrite it
watch how they re-imagine our existence
like they done before
they got the B I E in effect
dudes done went from thugs to terrorist
on the low low
they'll be scrubbing the internet soon
white washing us all over again
this ain't nothin but repeat business
for the machine
it's all about time
was always about time
the most precious commodity in existence
everything in this universe
needs time fulfill its purpose
that's why we got millions of black men doin time
away from time..away from purpose..
away from destiny
yeahh..i saw the bear trap
back when i was 6 years old
but for some reason
a calm smile always tend to grace my soul
when i speak like this
never am i filled with despair
never
cuz i can see beyond the cloak
i know what this is
and why it is
the system needs your full attention
and cooperation at all times
but i vibe beyond this time
the wizard of oz always try to appear
larger than life
and all do is chuckle at the futility
and stupidity of it all
