Image for the poem Hero

Hero

He lies there in the stillness
Finding some peace for us
There is rest for the wicked
He's all wrapped up in the flag

A killer, oh such a monster
viewed as a role model
Seems you only become a hero
When you are dead and gone
Medals pinned on proudly
Despite the actual truth
An alcoholic
A beater of wives
An abuser of children

All are forgotten sins
Bathed in the glory of the flag
For the fallen hero
