the mermaid on a scale

edge of the universe,
counting sheep
and painting birds
of paradise -

you're always on my mind,
goddess of the light,
your earthly delights filling
my lungs with ease--an odyssey
within your mind, an iliad
inside your eyes -

facial contortions, your moans
like honeydew, smores,
liquor or a kitten's roar, and the only
snore to soften
my mushy tick-tick-ticker -

a tiny sun to match
her mother's glow,
and canine friends
adding to the warmth,
days serene enough
for me to hate to go,

oh how i love you so

*

i'll give my all for
you and this,
for her and him,
i'll build a fortress
and dig a moat,
at the altar i'll confess
our sins and tell the world
i've stumbled on
a truth transcending aeons,
a story they'll tell their grandsons -

the garden in your ribcage,
apple of my eye,
your happy tears, my sweet demise,
queen of the land,
better than mary jane,
better than lois lane,
a muse to end all muses,
i laugh and dance and sing and write
in another world
that spins around for you

*

my reverie endeavor,
somnambulant directives,
you say my beauty
makes the mountains blush,
but you're the reason
we have shooting stars,
see, they're coming home
to you, like gravity...
my walking, talking sun,

never meant to part,
your breath is hope,
my breath is yours, and

oh, how i love you so
