Unity is Justice

As black people
Where do we stand
Not on our own two feet
But lying dead flat on our backs
From a bullet that someone shot
Because we looked suspicious
We been in this country
For over a thousand years
You would think by now
People would know how we look
Not only whites but other races
Killing our people each year
By saying we look suspicious
Because we wear a hoodie
As black people, we need to take a stand
Come together as one
Assemble in front of every State Capitol building
Where racism and racial profiling is done
And then they will see
We want justice
Like Malcolm X once said
By any means necessary!
Continue marching when it seems
All else has failed
Might be the only solution
To save our people
From these untimely deaths

Author's Note
After reading the poem by "SatinUGal Kumar" about the senseless killing of Jemel Roberson. It made me think about the struggles African Americans still face. So I dedicated this poem to the deceased teenager, "Trayvon Martin".
