When my father was deployed, my mother sent him tape recordings of her voice. These are the kinds of things I would hear her say. . . when she thought me asleep.
Absence does one of two things: extinquishes the weak or enflames the strong. Love knows not its own until the hour of separation. 🔥

That’s so sweet your mother did that. Both my parents served and I remember dad only being able to call us once a month on deployment (if we were lucky) for five minutes. Luckily the technology is better now.
Yes, I thought too since perdido means “lost” in Spanish it’s a little extra for the poem :-)
