Some of the
weirdest,
loneliest,
dumbest,
drabbest,
craziest people in the world
happen to be poets
Some of the stupidest
believe they're going to make it
when they should already know
they're shit
Even worse
are the 'professionals'
whose economic necessities
prolong their woeful
self-inflicted
state of
abject poet misery
permanently
And worst of all
when their income
becomes taxable
they somehow convince themselves
of their own genius
But when you've written
a million words of shit
eventually
something
has to give

A brutally honest poem. So savage it carries a knife and keeps stabbing until the reader's near death. I can but only appreciate the wisdom here, which makes me smile and wince in equal measure. Thanks for the read, Abra.

The savage nature of life is almost always lurking and that's even more apparent for the poet - which is probably why few of us are happy with our lot.
