i was born in the times when
orewell's 1984 was still few years away
and the world was still recovering from
the hangover of the heady 60's and 70's
then Jesse Owens left
after running
running after
all his life
today his statues stand tall
where he once chased/raced horses
back to the point
big brother
has many siblings
one watches the others listen
and some shoot
from the sky
very easy
keeping busy
the masses
just throw some controversy
wedge theo-political bone and watch
the hawks, wolves and dogs
jump in and the stampede once started
the wildebeest and the sheep
listen to nothing but primary instincts
it's all about survival they say
the fit, well they just do it better, most times
and sometimes it also means
fitting in
cowing to the master's whim
pretending you doing the masses some service
fuck this!

Well put. I know exactly what you are talking about. We live unders social darwinism and a mixture of "1984" and " Brave New World". Orwell and Huxley knew what was about to happen not because they were visionaries, but because they where on the inside. We are rapidly approaching a transhumanist world.

well things...certainly have changed since the Passing of Jesse Owens... i was few days old back then... and yet things...the more important ones...well they have not
and coming to the Orwellian world and Huxley's vision...though i absolutely abhor doomsday scenarios and conspiracy theories...the reality unfortunately...inching much closer... if you look up the Chinese expenditure and development on the cctv monitoring and facial recognition technology and their deployment... Big Brother...at least one of kins..have already come true...

I remember ''McCarthyism''... back in the '50s ... same, same as we've got now... maybe worse.
accusations with no evidence, spreading discord, and telling lies
dividing the country left and right... people got sick and

yes... you nailed it..McCarthyism... and at places on this planet dear Sis, that McCarthyism has morphed into barbarianism... just read the stories about the lynching by mobs of innocents in India and other places...that if you look closely is the extreme version of McCarthyism... politicians these days learn from each other..not necessarily the ideals of liberalism or the live and let live one but the ones of divide and conquer... fear ...the primal fear, the base instinct trump over common sense...

I totally agree if the point being made is how those currently in power or seeking to be, attempt to twist truth to reflect their view of how things should be, and the steps they take in doing so.
Yet, I feel in many cases it's more about keeping their seat atop the pile than really believing in what they purport.
This is nothing new, this human trait, based in our narcistic undertones.
So, at times I sit and ponder who is the true master,.....them or our own humanisms.
I truly respect those caring enough of current events to stand up and speak their views and even more so when they willing sit down and listen with an attentive ear to others whose views differ, and accept there will be times when peaceful discourse will be the only thing accomplished.
Until we are capable of solving ourselves, I fear not much will change in the world.
Thank you, brother, for this piece.

we as scribblers( am far from ever being a poet TBH), if we not be the mirror and reflect the image of the times Sis then who... The presence of such Alive and Enthusiastic and wise friends, thinkers and observers here is a testament to the fact that there is life, and the truth is being seen for what it really is and not being manipulated into someone's version of it.
Ely's and Yours response...in depth and enlightening proof... humanity is fighting and truth is being observed despite the peddling of blatant lies and conspiracy theories and fear mongering that is today's life.
Your questions posed have made me think deep as well dear Teri... am not sure either who is the true master...though would lean naturally towards our humanism...
peaceful discourse, at these times are only for the wise and the sane ones...unfortunately they're either silent or being submerged under the vocal and loud noises.
Sadly, yes...until we become capable of solving, sorting our own selves...change is just that out of reach
