Image for the poem broken promises

broken promises

falling into you
is like stargazing
a soul so bright I forget
little pieces of me you broke

fine bone china emotions
with tiny blue daisies
smashed under your heel

the delicate parts of my heart
are no more
standing in their place
scars of resilience
a battle won

in negotiations, I lost her
the lady with the gentle laugh
my smile curls cruelly with thoughts of you

you stole something precious
never to return
innocence plucked
and replaced with Jade

a tender soul
exchanged for jaded thoughts
a deal with the devil, for sure

still, inside me, I feel a stir
as her eyes ease open
and awaken me to the truth

combat boots and little girl dreams
are the lady I am today
thank you
