Image for the poem Purgatory

Purgatory

Recollection of my youthful past
That strength and the resilience
But it seems the grace is gone
And scattered in the rising wind

Resistance of encroaching age
Flesh compromised and fragile bones
That sweet chariot swinging low
Taking me to God knows where

Death still seems to me unknown
The golden gates or an inferno
Perhaps a purgatory, much deserved
To cleanse and shine this rusted soul

My own attempts to wipe the stains
Seem futile as the night descends
My spirit held between two shores
Can this truly be how it all ends?
