Image for the poem sobriety

sobriety's somber sun

a sober sun saw me somber inside my new skin
I beheld a door ajar
on trembling feet, I approached
and peeked inside

there I witness future me
brightly adorned with truth
with tears in her eyes, she gazed at me
and whispered
"I couldn't have gotten here without you"

I looked down and saw my scars
each one a story yet to be told
I heard a voice in the heavens
with a boom speak

"child of the dawn walk through
be on your way now
it's time to greet the forlorn
fluent in pain they will hear you"

I sought to erase the pain
hide the guilt
an honest sun shone down on me
spotlighting my shame
she smiled at me and said

"walk the lighted path
stay clear of the shadows now
pretend it's a game of follow the leader
I've chosen you to lead the way out"
