Steel Eyes On A Pale Horse

He came through town like a whirlwind

Leaving destruction as his guns tore and rend

We irked his wrath

We regret crossing his path

It all started when we saw two

Decided they had a bag of coins or two

The town all agreed

They'd surrender their wealth or bleed

So a band of us caught them on the road

They'd give us what was owed

They were only two a male and his girl

You could see the terror in her eyes beneath her curls

Rags over our face

We demanded they surrender and come back to our place

Of course the male remained calm

He showed his empty palms

Calling for no trouble to be made

Obviously the fool didn't realize we needed to be paid

So we grabbed the girl by the hair on her head

And told him the cash or she'll end up dead

He threw us a couple of bags of green stacks

As we released the girl to send her back

Someone discharged their gun

Didn't know if it was an accident or for fun

But the bullet ripped the air

And buried itself into the head beneath her hair

She fell over dead and spattering gore

The eyes of the male then drilled like a bore

His palms still up he had nothing to say

But those eyes if they could would kill and flay

We panicked and back into town we rode

Not a word was said on that dusty road

The townsfolk had gathered around

We threw the sacks on the ground

The crowd was absolutely glad

But all I could think of were those eyes angry and bad

The crowd picked up the vibe of our ride

Someone asked what we had to hide

Our leader said we left only one

But what's done is done

The crowd went silent

For we knew tis best to be quiet than defiant

I'm sure the rider buried his companion under a wooden cross

For he needed time to mourn his loss

It was a celebration with heavy tones that night

Because we didn't know if we were in for a fight

But later when the sun was ready to rise

A man possessed was ready to arise

We saw only one

A shadow on a pale horse silhouetted against the sun

We sat squinting through our eyes

Till the first bullet decided to fly

The watchman fell from his tower

Then came shots ringing of divine power

For each trigger pull was death

And each target took their last breath

He had already felled eight

A revenant he was fueled by hate

You could see in his eyes cold steel

That remorseless stare behind the sights all too real

The town was already up in arms

People running out into harm

He rode on through guns spitting fire

Turning the dusty drag into a bloody mire

I can't even disagree that justice was ready to serve

It was less than what we deserve

A town founded on crime

I guess these were our end times

Answering for all we did

Us cowards ran and hid

The fighters died where they stand

As vengeance's bullets found a place to land

For at that moment I saw the reaper

He was a gunslinger coming for us lowly creepers

The ground was littered with spent cases

Those hidden covered our faces

Praying for him to go

But death has a way to manifest and show

As he went around I heard each shot

Resistance was all for naught

Three hundred fell

Three hundred damned sent straight to Hell

Soon I was sure I was the last

As sure as the wind waving a flag on a mast

I finally decided to come out

The destruction made me give a shocked shout

Blood and bodies all around

The red stains corrupting the ground

And there the rider sat tall

Looking down at me deciding if I should fall

He then uttered a single phrase

I give you a chance to redeem your ways

And with that he was gone

Just as the sun was past dawn

He avenged his one desire

And cast us damned into the fire
