Wisps

I felt him behind me
his breath barely
a whisper
admiring
elongated shape
of my neck
partly hidden
under dark mane
disclosing
an undiscovered
world:
secrets and scents.

He lifted a handful
of wisps
almost ceremonial
sacred and sacrilegious
parting dark from light
admiring the curve
carving
in and out
dipping with shadows
and flickering synapse
when a moan escaped
from my mouth
O god,
he knew he needed
to be benevolent
exhaling the impossible.

That was before
I knew the electrifying
currents of flesh
pull of knotted wrack.
Siphoning passion
twining curlicues
begging,
Do as you wish
curled in their dreams.
Before I reinvented
myself at every
scanted moon
with every lover
conquered
as possession.
Before the night
I wept at the foot
of his bed, when
I cut and sold my hair.
